ProEnc’s stainless steel projector enclosures.

The founder (Graham) is a skilled engineer drawing on his 31 years as an engineer, producing outdoor housings for many industries, recently ProEnc had an unusual inquiry for a quantity of stainless steel projector housings that would eventually be located in a high salt air environment.

He designed the NEMA 4X enclosure for a beach region in northern Florida and these protective weatherproof housings had to protect from the weather and the corrosive salt air. Using a standard steel housing would not be effective as it would start corroding and need replacing. So ProEnc’s stainless steel projector enclosures was designed and approved.

Manufacturing the stainless steel projector housings in under 4 weeks.

Once approved, the NEMA 4X projector housings were put into production, assembled and packed, then shipped to Daytona raceway in under 4 weeks. Not back for a custom solution – who else could offer this service? The customer did approach several potential suppliers who all turned the project down due to the crazy lead time. However Graham took the job on and delivered, Mark said ‘the solution was top notch and worth paying the premium for a fast turnaround.”

Benefits and drawbacks of stainless steel.

You may be aware that stainless steel is perfect for combating corrosion; this is due to the high Chromium content in the steel’s makeup. This allows most things that are made from stainless steel to be put outdoor in harsh environments.

The drawback is the cost, as stainless steel is more expensive than regular steel, but it will last longer! Stainless steel does not need to be painted, however the welds need to be neat and purged during welding to remove as much of the burning as possible. This can turn the stainless a blue colour, just like on a stainless steel exhaust and only highly skilled engineers work with this type of material.

Providing the welds are of a good standard, finishing a stainless steel projector enclosure can be faster than a regular steel unit that has to be painted!
